This morning Malia was invited to try out "The Little Gym" with her friend Sophie. At this age it's all about exploration of basic motor and early social skill development. There were about 10-12 kids ranging from 10 months up to 19 months. They call this age group the "Birds". They did everything from play with bells, work on locomotor skills, play with balls, chase bubbles, to learning actual gymnastic skills and just exploring the gym. Today Malia learned how to do a forward roll using a wedge mat and a back handspring using a cylinder mat (it was more of just rolling backwards over a mat, using the same movement of an actual back handspring). She really enjoyed herself, had fun with the other kids, and tried everything. We loved the environment and the gymnastic teachers were fun, energetic, and great with the kids. I think we will sign her up for the Fall session. Who knows...she just might take after her momma! :)
Here are some pictures...

Trying to figure out what this spring board is all about.

Climbing up the wedge mat

Not sure of the balance beam (that's okay honey, mommy never liked it either)

Her beaver instincts kicking in

Thought the colorful mats were pretty cool

Had a blast with the bouncy balls

Her and Sophie playing

She is not sure why the kids are putting up the balls.

All of the kids followed the teacher when he put the balls up in the closet.

I think the kids still wanted to play with the balls. :)

Sophie & Malia
Thanks Sophie for inviting us to come with you to gymnastics. We had so much fun!

That looks like a lot of fun. She'll be up on that balance beam in no time.
OMG how was it? I was just thinking about checking that place out for Mason!
